Sixty years ago today, December 1, Rosa Parks
was arrested in Montgomery, Alabama for refusing to give up her seat to a white
man on a city bus. While perhaps best
known for her action that day which sparked a yearlong boycott of buses by
blacks in Montgomery, Rosa Parks was a lifelong activist in the civil rights
movement where she addressed issues of segregation and economic and racial
inequality.
