FirstGov.gov is now USA.gov

The public spoke, and the General Services Administration (GSA) listened.

GSA is responsible for operating and maintaining the U.S. government's official web portal, formerly know as FirstGov.gov. This month, the site changed its name to USA.gov, which should be a lot easier for everyone to remember.

Why the change? Here are a few things GSA learned from visitors to the site:

• Last year, more than 600,000 people typed "usa.gov" into their web browser when searching for government information.
• In a 2006 telephone survey, 79 percent of respondents preferred the name USA.gov.
• USA.gov is intuitive—it describes what our site is: the U.S. government online.
