Hello all of
you voracious readers out there! For those of you who love to read and share
your opinions and insights with others who are reading the same material, we
invite you to participate in the Maryland Humanities Council’s Program called
One Maryland, One Book now in its 5th year. The program is designed
to bring together diverse people through the shared experience of reading the
same book, thereby promoting widespread reading groups, lectures and discussions
on the material.
This year the council selected The Cellist of Sarajevo
by Steven Galloway. The novel focuses on the siege of Sarajevo, inspired by the
true story of cellist Vedran Smailovic. To highlight and promote discussion of
the material, Langsdale Library and its marketing committee will host “Viewpoints
of war and music: A panel discussion on
The Cellist of Sarajevo” on Tuesday October 2 at 7pm in the Lucy and Vernon
Wright Theater, Student Center at the University of Baltimore.
The evening
will consist of a combination of cello performances and panel of faculty speakers.
